Darryl Lee Wood is a multi-instrumentalist / songwriter / composer / recording engineer.
He picked up the music bug at a mere age of five, playing the guitar in the kitchen. Later in high school, his talent was noticed by his best friend's mom. She paid for his music lessons and like everyone always says, "the rest is history".
Darryl's love of music is not confined to any one particular genre. He was influenced by 80's Metal, Baroque and Classical, Church Hymns and Jazz. In university, he majored in opera singing and performed in with ARCADY under Ronald Beckett. He regularly works with artists like Kellen Jones, Jennifer Day, Ray Wells (of Pazuzu, Raventhrone and Pale Horses fame), Bill Wood (Eye Eye, and himself), Ken Michell (the Dustkickers), Dan Todd (FLUDD), and Robin Pirsen (of Mad Violet). He has also shared the stage with Sahra Featherstone and Glen Soderholm.
"I always wanted to a songwriter's songwriter. I never wanted to be confined to a single style of music. That was the origin of this collection of music, 'Dim Sum for the Soul' ". Like Dim Sum, one gets pleasure out of experiencing the variety of tastes. However, the influences of artists like Leonard Cohen, Sheryl Crow, Hawksley Workman, and Lyle Lovett are readily evident in the lyrics and character of the songs.
Darryl is sought after for his vocal workshops, live sound workshops, studio recording as a musical collaborator and ensemble player. He is most creative when working with other musicians, helping them in fine tuning their vision. He is currently the head of the AV Committee for Cornerstone Community Church.
He has written feature articles for "Envision Church" and "Techologies for Worship Magazine".
Darryl holds an Honors Music Theory Degree from the University of Western Ontario.
